Restaurant News By The Numbers

Restaurant News by The Numbers

  • 980,000 locations serving millions daily
  • 13.1 million employed or 10% of the workforce
  •  66.3% turnover rate

What does that mean for distributors selling uniforms to complement the restaurant brand?  Growth, and lots of it.  As the economy continues to grow so does the restaurant market and putting uniforms on the second largest private sector employer will continue to be robust. Let me take you inside my favorite eatery and to see how the math works.

Job Function                      # Employed
Hostess/cashier                         2
Waitstaff                                    15
Bar Tender                                 2
Cooks                                         4
Chefs                                          1
Manager                                     1
Total # of Employees              25

In this example, each job function requires 3 – 4 garment styles (shirt, pant, apron, vest, neckwear) with an average cost of $60/uniform set/job function.  Most employers will outfit each employee in 3 or more uniform sets, so this example could mean a $4,500 sale.  Now factor in a 66% annual turnover rate (or an additional 16 employees) and the sale has the potential to reach just under $7,400.  Okay, here’s where it gets exciting….count how many restaurants are in your market … 100?  200?  WOW.

See what I mean about GROWTH!

When selling to this market what is important to them?
YOU … you are important to them because you can provide your expertise advice when developing the program by offering:

  1. Quality garments that hold up to the work wear demands of the restaurant
  2. Reliability with garments being available and ready to ship when they need them – this includes the initial order and any fill-ins that happen over the life of the program
  3. Garments that are easy to care for with home laundry by their employees
  4. Direction with garment selection in order to create the brand extension they require
  5. Fulfillment that includes assembling the garments by person prior to delivery for easy distribution

Whether it is Fast Food, Limited Service or Table Service, restaurants are growing and are ready for you to serve them.  Bon Appetite!
