Higg Index – What is it?

As a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), Edwards measures results using the Higg Index for brands and retailers.  By using this measurement tool, Edwards can track, measure, and share our sustainability progress with our supply chain partners and key stakeholders.  Beginning with material sourcing to what happens at the end of a garments life cycle, we can identify sustainability risks and how to improve the products life cycle for the future.

There are two categories for assessment which include Environmental and Social impact.

Social Impact
Environmental Impact

Edwards began addressing social impacts many years ago and the Higg Index measures 16 areas which are important to our brand.  The intent of measuring these areas create stronger corporate social responsibility strategies that improve the well-being of workers throughout our supply chain and strengthen our global economy.

Environmental impact is an area that Edwards has just begun to address.  The Higg Index measures 11 environmental impacts which identifies how we can improve the way we develop products and improve packaging to reduce our environmental footprint.

Products made with recycled materials, conserving energy by switching to LED lighting for our warehouse, and recycling cardboard & plastics are all positive initiatives that contribute to Edwards sustainability strategy.

Today we print 50% less promotional materials than we did 5 years ago by adopting digital marketing solutions. These items include catalogs, price lists, presentations, and flyers.

Together we walk this path towards improved sustainability and these are good first steps. We’ll continue to share our story and I hope you’ll join us on this journey.
