Healthy Choices…Great Rewards!

Wellness Programs are HUGE in corporate business today.  So, why don’t I know much about them?  I mean as a savvy distributor skilled at developing “image apparel” programs, why haven’t I asked my clients if they have a program?  The simple answer may be “I didn’t think about it”?
Take the first step and think about Wellness and what incentive items might be a terrific solution for your client.  Here’s how one distributor solved a participation goal for his client.

The challenge:  A medium sized manufacturer started a wellness program as a way to promote healthy choices and reduce health risks for their employees.  Participation started out strong with over 35% of the staff recording healthy choices.  The HR Director wanted to expand participation and build the program brand.  She contacted her vendor who had provided the initial incentives (water bottle and sweatbands) and together they determined an interesting way to reward present participation while boosting future program adopters.

The solution:  A decorated garment would be used as an incentive for staff who had achieved a specific program goal.  The employee could select from a number of products and the corporate wellness logo was branded on the garment as a way to say congratulations … you did it!  As staff began to wear their garment it served to encourage peers to ask questions about the program and its benefits.

The implementation:  The HR Director kept the ordering process simple.  Employees could select the garment they wanted and the entire order was submitted at one time.  The distributor placed the order and the garments were decorated and drop shipped directly to his client.
What you can take away from this success story is:

  • Ask your client if they offer a wellness program and what are their program goals?  Then when making suggestions keep these strategies in mind.
  • Make it Simple – in this case achieving a healthy choice goal triggered the reward.
  • Make it Interesting – a decorated shirt for employees to wear will not only promote the program, but will solicit questions from staff who haven’t participated.
  • Make it Social – employees spreading the word about how simple it is to participate in the wellness program is really the best advertising.
  • Make it Meaningful – the reward should make the employee feel great about attaining their goal.
